Garlic is a great food to grow becasue it is so easy!

Paul's grandpa said "plant on the shortest day and harvest on the longest", so about 23rd of June and 23nd of December.

Today, 21st December 2012 (stil not the end of the world) I will dig up over 40 plants, lay them out to dry for about 2 weeks, clean off the dirt and cut off the roots, then have a try at plaiting them.

Here is a good set of instructions from my friend Melissa for plaiting- http://wwwgillybeansgardencom.blogspot.com.au/2009/01/how-to-plait-garlic.html

In Ballarat's cool mountian environment, you can, in fact, plant garlic as early as April! I find that the heads of garlic are not fully formed by mid December, so harvest is usually in the new year.

So much for the saying, just sayin'.
